Lawman’s Curse is another novel set in the Nebraska Sandhills and features former U.S. Marshal Morg Fraser from Dismal Trail. Morg assumes a new role in this story. While I try to write all novels as standalones, so they can be enjoyed without first reading a previous book, most readers will likely see this novel as a sequel to Dismal Trail. You will encounter many of the same characters but a fair number of new ones as well.
Morg’s daughter, Sheena, with whom he has shared a troubled relationship, was given a major role in this novel, and the father-daughter skirmishes continue as the characters work toward resolution of their conflicts. For those who seek action, they should find it here as Morg tries to solve three serial killings, which rumors suggest were carried out by werewolves. He also takes on a ring of child traffickers.
I hope past readers will enjoy encountering old friends from prior novels, but I think you will find some of the new characters interesting and vital to the plot. I must confess that I get more satisfaction out of character creation and development than writing the storyline.
I expect a third book in this series to be released early January of 2026. The working title for this novel is Raging Hills, although titles are sometimes changed once a novel is completed. This writer does not work from an outline and often ends up with a story far different than initially intended. While Morg Fraser will be very involved, several new characters will carry much of the plot. I have been anxious to get back at the keyboard everyday on this one because I can’t wait to see what happens next.
